| The Great Connecticut High School
Debate Program is for students in grades 9-12. The competition
takes place in the fall and consists of one day of first round
debates and another day consisting of a final round of debate,
held at the State Capitol. School teams consist of two students
who must be prepared to debate both sides of the resolution.
Like the middle school debate topics, the high school debates
deal with current and historic legal questions. The 2001 topic
was "Resolved: That the Electoral College should be replaced
by the direct election of the President and Vice-President by
the voters of the United States." Next year's topic will
focus on the prohibition of tobacco products.
All Connecticut high schools are invited to participate in
The Great Connecticut High School Debate Program. Participating
high schools are allowed to enter up to two teams. The Great
Connecticut High School Debate is co-sponsored by the CCLCE
and the Office of the Secretary of the State.
