| New Program: Play By The Rules |
|
The Connecticut Consortium for Law and Citizenship Education, Inc. (CCLCE) has announced the state’s participation in an innovative education program beginning during the 2008-09 academic year that teaches middle-school students Connecticut laws through a curriculum of best practices proven to prevent youth crime. Play by the Rules utilizes state-specific illustrated textbooks written in language easily understood by its target audience. Through caricature versions of state birds as textbook “mascots,” the curriculum invites student engagement through a baseball theme. The state bird of Connecticut, the American Robin, will be used to interest state youth in learning about law. Topics addressed in the PBR textbook include the rule of law, juvenile justice, crimes, weapons, alcohol and other drugs, family law, recreation law, school law, transportation law, employment law, civic responsibility, technology and Internet safety. Full classroom sets of student workbooks are available free of charge upon request. Email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
