We the People... Project Citizen
We the People... Project Citizen is a civic education project
for middle school students that promotes competent and responsible
participation in state and local government. The curriculum involves
a class of middle school students in a series of structured, cooperative
learning activities that are guided by their teachers and adult volunteers.
Working in cooperative teams, the class learns to interact with their
government through a five-step process that includes identifying a
public policy problem in their community, gathering and evaluaing
information on the problem, examining and evaluating solutions, selecting
or developing a proposed public policy, and developing an action plan.
Students' work is displayed in a class portfolio, containing display
and documentation sections.
We the People... Project Citizen includes a teacher's guide
with directions for leading the class through the five-step process
and developing a class portfolio.
We the People... programs and materials are provided by the
Center for Civic Education. For more information, contact
